Getting started
Scanning vs tracking
Why finding something and watching it are different things.
Scanning and tracking answer different questions, and only one of them is ongoing.
Scanning discovers
- It reads a limited set of public pages or one page or document, once, and suggests what may be worth tracking.
- It is free, needs no sign-up and saves nothing to track.
- A discovery is what FactLatch read on a page. It has not been checked against anything, so it says nothing about whether the information is current or right.
Tracking is the ongoing value
- An item is tracked only after you verify and confirm it. FactLatch then reads it again from its source and records a baseline.
- From then on FactLatch checks it repeatedly and compares each check with the baseline.
- A citation is not automatically evidence. For a fact tied to a source, if FactLatch cannot confirm the evidence on the source, the fact is not tracked until you decide what to do.
